Russell and I spent about 48 hours on Cape Cod last summer. My mom and sisters live in Orleans right on the inside elbow of Cape Cod. We try to visit as often as we can, but honestly haven’t been in a couple of years, and my last visit was without Russell.
The purpose of our visit was my mom’s 70th birthday! She of course looks not a day older than 24! Happy Birthday Momma!
We flew into Boston thanks to a fabulous sale on Southwest! I typically fly into Providence, but the price and times were better into Boston so we did that. My mom and sisters suggested taking the bus from the airport to the Cape. Traffic in the summer is HORRENDOUS. Our flight landed at 7:00 am – so this seemed like the best bet. We used Plymouth & Brockton based on my families recommendations. You need several degrees to be able to read the timetables on the website, but give it a try! The bus was on time and fairly comfortable. Finding it wasn’t easy, thankfully again my family helped. You purchase the tickets right on the bus, but must have cash – who has cash these days? Thankfully, my mom had warned me, so we had cash! Other than the stops the bus makes, it is a fairly easy and quick way to get onto the Cape from the Boston Airport. We also took the bus back to the airport, which you can purchase roundtrip tickets to save a few bucks.
One thing that I was excited about was the tide schedule. It seems the times I have had Russell with me when I visit my family, the tide schedules haven’t cooperated or it is cold! The tides on Cape Cod are different from anything I have ever experienced. When it is low tide you can walk quite a ways out on the “flats”. Sand ripples are amazing, you see all sorts of sea critters, you do however have to watch the tide as it comes in – as sometimes you turn around and have to walk back in water up to you waist!

Cape Cod is known for its amazing sunsets as well. Unfortunately, I did not witness any on this trip, but fortunately I have great friends who live there and experience them everyday and share their photos! During sunsets, specifically at Rock Harbor you can watch the charter boats and spot some cool channel markers (TREES!)
