In February, Kerry and I flew to Colorado to visit our friend that was staying at Copper Mountain for the winter. What a treat it was! I didn’t know what to expect but the villages were so pretty and the shops at Center Village were so nice. Be sure to check out Sugar Lips mini donuts, its super cute.
Kerry and I insisted that we were not going to ski as we were planning our trip. However, when we got there that plan flew out the window. Our ski instructors were our friend’s kids and they were all 14 and under! They were so patient and kind and didn’t laugh at us one bit while we were on the bunny slope.
We got the idea to try hot springs while we were there. We chose Cottonwood Hot Springs in Buena Vista, Colorado. For most people it’s about an hour drive from Copper through the beautiful mountains. However, if you have ever traveled with a photographer you know that things take a wee bit longer. I say that with love, Kerry.
Our friend stopped her mini van with quickness every time Kerry saw something spectacular. We only put Kerry out once. I’m sure she asked to be put out?! Her photos are amazing so there are perks to the longer drive times!
We arrived at Cottonwood Hot Springs and sat in the van pondering what we had gotten ourselves into. It’s a nice place, don’t get me wrong…we just clearly had no idea what to expect. At all. So we checked in for the day and changed into our suits. Again, not knowing what to expect we jumped into the first pool to check which was the warmest. There are signs everywhere to be quiet because it’s meant to be relaxing. Yeah. That didn’t work. We laughed, we ran from pool to pool and I think at some point we relaxed. It was an experience for sure and the people watching was excellent.
If you are in the area give it a try. Take some good friends and it will be a life experience that makes a good story.
